Late February Updates

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that LISSO's Trivia Night at Winchell's is tomorrow, February 25.! The starting time has been bumped up to 7pm due to the UK game and it generally lasts for 2 hours.

Also, Dr. Huber's next Lunch'n'Learn will be held on Tuesday, March 2 from noon until 1pm. Dr. Ron Critchfield, Director of the Jessamine County Public Library will be presenting. His presentation is entitled "Won't Somebody Please Think of the Children? Managing Conflict in Jessamine."

Please note that the Lunch'n'Learn will be held in the School's large conference room, Room 311, rather than the student lounge. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

LISSO's Hap"pie" Hour will be the next day, March 3 at 6pm at Ramsey's.

Hope to see you at one if not all of these events!

If you have any ideas for future event please let us know.

Other Business

- We would like to remind everyone that dues are $5 for the year so if you haven't paid your dues please do so. We will be having a drawing for a gift card to the UK Bookstore for those who pay their dues at the April picnic. You can pay your dues to any of the LISSO offers.

- Each year the students vote on the recipient for the LISSO leadership. Right now we are collecting nominations for the award and will have a school wide vote at the end of March. Students who graduated in December and will graduate in May are eligible for the award. We will send a list of the students out shortly with a call for nominations.

- To prepare for the next semester, LISSO would like all SLIS students who will be in the program for the 2010-2011 school year to consider an officer position in LISSO. Being an officer in LISSO is a great way to gain leadership experience and can be an attractive line on a resume. The positions that will be available are as follows:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Communications Officer

If you are interested in any of these positions please join us for our next LISSO meeting for more information. If you have any questions, comments, complaints, compliments, etcetera, please feel free to contact LISSO!

Our next LISSO meeting is Wednesday, March 10th at 5:00pm in the SLIS Student Lounge. As always, more information about LISSO events will be forthcoming and events have been added to the Google Calendar which can be found at the bottom of the blog.

Thank you!

In light of Mellow Mushroom, the location of our upcoming Friday at Five, run in with a car this past Sunday, LISSO has decided to change the location of this week's Friday at Five. LISSO as of 2010

LISSO held its first meeting of the Spring 2010 semester on Wednesday, January 20. Thank you to all who came.

It had been known that LISSO President Amanda Hazenfield would be graduating at the end of the Fall 2009 semester and as a result, LISSO Secretary Liz Siler graciously stepped up at the December meeting and volunteered to serve as LISSO President through the end of the 2009/10 school year. At the January meeting, SLIS student Sara Wood volunteered to fill the role of the then-vacant Secretary position.

LISSO is still currently searching for current SLIS students interested in joining the organization as current members will soon be graduating.

Some future events for the Spring 2010 semester include resume workshop, comps orientation, a trip to the Keeneland Library and/or race, spring picnic, more Fridays at five and Trivia nights, etc. We are always open to suggestions.

---

LISSO kicked off the semester with two notable events: our first Friday at Five at Lynagh's on January 29th and a Trivia night at Winchell's on February 4. Though the LISSO team did not ultimately manage to take first place at trivia, they reigned supreme through the majority of the game.

The next official LISSO event is another Friday at Five at the Mellow Mushroom on February 12. Our next LISSO meeting is February 17. Upcoming meetings are planned for these Wednesdays at 5p in the SLIS Student Lounge: March 10, and April 21.

Other LISSO and SLIS events are added to the calendar at the bottom of this blog. Please comment or drop us a line at our LISSO e-mail which is lissouk@gmail.com or contact any of the officers individually if you would like to see any more added or if you have any comments, suggestions, etc. We also have a Facebook account which is another great way of contacting and keeping up with all of the fun stuff we do.

Until next time,
LISSO
